SHINYANGA: SECRETARY General of the Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Ambassador Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi stated that his party practically demonstrates its capability to lead the country and serve the underprivileged.
He also emphasised that the challenge facing opposition parties in the country is lack of clear plans to lead the nation.
Dr Nchimbi made the remarks yesterday while speaking to the residents of Lamadi Ward in Busega District on the first day of his seven-day tour in Simiyu and Shinyanga regions.
He noted that despite the 32 years since the establishment of a multi-party system in the country, opposition parties have failed to articulate development plans if they were to assume power.
He pointed out the challenges opposition parties face as including the inability to discuss strategies for national leadership and instead resort to inciting protests.
“A party that is ready to lead talks about development plans, stating that if elected, it will do one, two, three. However, a leader who is not well-prepared and mature, when given a chance to speak, will say ‘brothers and sisters, let us protest; brothers and sisters, let us tear our kanga brothers and sisters, let us boo them when they show up. You know, this is childish,” he stressed.
“CCM does not have leaders who remain in power for 40 years. They are evaluated and replaced; if we look at those who were in the first Cabinet of Tanganyika, not a single one is in the current cabinet. Every leadership change involves new faces; the former Chairman of CCM in Simiyu five years ago is no longer here; this is CCM.”
Dr Nchimbi called on the citizens to continue collaborating with CCM as it has shown a genuine intention to serve the people.
“You will not hear elders of CCM advocating for religious or ethnic divisions, but with other parties, you will, because they do not have the history of where the country has come from,” he further illustrated the maturity of CCM.
“However, you have heard elders from other parties advocating for religious and ethnic divisions because they do not have a history of the growth of our country; they do not touch on the suffering of their people and do not see beyond our country, which is why they can say anything without considering the possible consequences.”
Regarding the upcoming local government elections for councils, villages, and hamlets scheduled for November this year, he urged citizens to come out in large numbers.
He added: “CCM will bring candidates who care about the challenges faced by the people and are not self-serving. “When it’s time to register, let us come out in large numbers to register in the Resident Register that will be relevant for the local government elections. The permanent voter register is for general elections.”
In response to challenges raised by citizens regarding destructive wildlife, Dr Nchimbi said the government has begun taking steps to address the issue.
Earlier, the CCM National Secretary for Publicity and Ideology, Mr Amos Makalla, stated that CCM Secretary General Ambassador Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi’s visit to Simiyu marks the 19th region, where he has conducted working tours to monitor the implementation of the CCM’s manifesto and listen to the citizens’ grievances.
Additionally, a CCM member who defected from the Democratic Party (Chadema), Peter Msingwa, stated that Tanzania is safe under the leadership of the CCM and urged those who think opposition parties will bring development to be watchful, adding that the parties are ineffective.
Meanwhile, Minister of State in the President’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government), Mr Mohamed Mchengerwa stated that, in her commitment to caring for the people, President Samia Suluhu Hassan has allocated over 20bn/- for the construction of a modern market and 8 kilometres of paved roads in Lamadi, Busega District.
This project is part of an urban improvement programme, which aims to establish a network of paved roads in the area.
Mr Mchengerwa made the remarks after receiving a call from Dr Nchimbi.
Nchimbi’s call was prompted by reports from the Simiyu Regional CCM Chairperson, Shamsa Mohamed Seif and Busega Member of Parliament,Mr Simon Lusengekile, who had separately highlighted the challenges regarding the market and bus stand in the area.
Mr Mchengerwa noted that President Samia has already allocated the funds for the modern market and the 8 kilometres of paved roads, with the process of securing contractors set to take place next month.
“The President has addressed these concerns and directed us to ensure that the funds for the construction of the market and roads are allocated to the area.”
“Additionally, we will be on-site next month to assess how we can proceed with the improvements, as the current funds are designated for the construction of the modern market and the 8 kilometres of paved roads.”
