Tanzania’s weatherman puts 11 regions on alert as country braces for heavy rainfall
Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has issued a warning indicating that 11 regions, including Dar es Salaam, are on high alert due to anticipated heavy rainfall.
The forecast suggests a likelihood of floods and potential disruptions to marine and economic activities across the affected areas.
The regions in the path of the impending weather include Morogoro, Coast including Mafia, Iringa, Njombe, Ruvuma, Lindi, and Mtwara, as well as the isles of Unguja and Pemba (Zanzibar).
According to TMA’s five-day severe weather impact-based forecasts released on Tuesday, March 19, the heavy rains are expected to persist for three days, commencing today, March 20.
In its statement, the TMA urges residents to be prepared for the adverse conditions, as localized flooding and economic activity disruptions are anticipated.
“TMA will continue to monitor the weather systems closely and issue updates accordingly. Therefore, the community is strongly advised to stay informed by following the daily and monthly weather forecasts provided by the authority,” the statement further noted.
Residents and businesses in the affected regions are urged to take precautionary measures and stay updated with official advisories to minimize the impact of the impending severe weather conditions.
