Samia calls on CCM members to uphold unity, solidarity

Unguja. The CCM national party chairperson, President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has urged members of the ruling party to maintain unity and eliminate internal intrigue. The President emphasised the importance of solidarity within the party to secure victory in the upcoming polls and sustain its hold on power.

Speaking yesterday on various occasions during a visit to the Unguja North Region in Zanzibar, where she inaugurated two investment buildings constructed by the party leaders, President Hassan criticised the practice of some leaders, particularly MPs and Members of the House of Representatives, offering gifts such as khangas, vitenge, and money when campaign seasons approach to sway voters. She noted that those resorting to such tactics are failing in their responsibilities and lack confidence in their abilities.

The head of state proudly asserted that, currently, CCM faces no formidable challenger capable of unseating it from power. Nevertheless, she cautioned party members that departing from the party would have its consequences soon enough.

During her tour, President Hassan inaugurated tailoring centres in the Chaani and Mahonda areas, the former costing Sh700 million and the latter Sh72 million.

“My fellow party members, the stakes of losing power are significant. Let us unite and safeguard our collective interests during these times,” she noted.

She said Article 5 of the CCM constitution says the task of CCM is to win elections that are held. “But national leaders cannot win on their own until they realise that all the members belong to CCM,” she noted.

The President urged the public to refrain from the habit of baseless accusations and discouraging one another without cause. She emphasised that the government has been instrumental in bringing about substantial development for the citizens.

The President urged MPs and Members of the House of Representatives to assist the government in addressing the challenges confronting their constituents. She emphasised that this would serve as a criterion to nominate legislators for the upcoming elections next year.

“This is the task at hand, as it will enable us to evaluate the performance of MPs and Members of the House of Representatives before elections,” she said.

She mentioned that she has witnessed positive developments in the Unguja North Region and that she is now in the process of assessing and assigning evaluations for the remaining period to determine the accomplishments of individuals.
