DART signs contract to develop intelligent transportation system for BRT
Dar es Salaam. The Dar es Salaam Rapid Transit Agency (DART) has signed a contract with Spanish company IDOM to develop an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) for its Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.
The contract is worth over Euro2 million and will take 14 months to complete.
The ITS system will use sensors, analytics, and communications technologies to improve the safety, mobility, and efficiency of the BRT system.
It will be integrated with the BRT’s fare collection system and will allow bus operators to see real-time data on traffic conditions and passenger demand.
This will help them make better decisions about routing and scheduling.
The ITS system will also benefit passengers by providing them with real-time information on bus arrival times and estimated travel times.
This will help them plan their journeys more effectively and reduce waiting times.
DART’s Chief Executive, Edwin Mhede, said that the ITS system will be a major step forward for the BRT system. “The implementation of the ITS system will help us to achieve our mission of providing safe, reliable, and affordable public transportation to the people of Dar es Salaam,” he said.
Spain’s ambassador to Tanzania, Jorge Moragas, said that Spain was happy to be involved in the project. “We are committed to helping Tanzania develop its infrastructure and public transportation system,” he said. “The ITS system will help to make Dar es Salaam a more livable city for everyone.”
IDOM project manager, Miguel Rodriguez, said that the company was excited to be working with DART on the ITS project. “We are confident that the ITS system will make a significant improvement to the BRT system and the lives of the people of Dar es Salaam,” he said.
