Tanzania aims to become a hub for international conferences in Africa
Dar es Salaam. International conference Tourism is becoming more potent in boosting Tanzania’s global appeal, with the government, through the Foreign Affairs Ministry, stating that strategies are in the pipeline to make Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, and Zanzibar leading conference destinations in Africa.
Addressing journalists at the State House in Dar es Salaam, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Samwel Shelukindo, said that President Samia Suluhu Hassan made has decided to make Tanzania Africa’s top choice in hosting international conferences.
He says so far this year, Tanzania has hosted/will host two big global conferences: Africa Heads of State Human Capital Summit back in July and the Africa Food Systems Forum to be hosted on September 5.
Shelukindo said that these conferences come with a host of benefits to the country, including foreign exchange, boosting tourism, increasing money supply, and also providing good exposure for Tanzania.
As a result, he says the government plans on expanding the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) and also plans on building more international conference centres in Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar. Tanzania will also build the second-biggest conference centre in Africa.
